Annotation: In this article, Wen shows how ethics is as important or even more important when it comes to the new digital age of information being posted on new media technology. It shows how articles and reports can be shared and how information can be reproduced with the wrong information. This article will be extremely useful in my paper because it will show how misinformation and tragic news stories require journalists and citizens to obtain the quality of their ethics for respect of the life loss and family’s loss.

Abstract from Author: In the new media era, attention has become a scarce resource. Tragic events can quickly arouse the attention of the audience. However, when journalists use new media technology to report tragic news events, there are many problems of media ethics. This paper takes the report of "a 17-year-old boy committed suicide by jumping off a bridge" as an example to analyze the problems in the reporting methods and content of the mainstream media "People’s Daily" and "Chengdu Commercial Daily" while using new media technology. The problems include the lack of humanistic care in the reporting method, the lack of rational judgment in the content of the report, and the problem of deliberately amplifying emotional feelings under the attention economy. In the end, specific solutions have been tentatively proposed for these problems, to provide reference for journalists when reporting such events.

The results indicate people prefer ‘‘traditional’’ Web site technologies: written articles, audio and video, podcasting, and links to local stations. Visitors use NPR.org to take control of their media experience, to be entertained, and to gather information. To gather information includes social interaction. There is some evidence that users may not be interested in new media features if the usefulness of these technologies is not apparent. Industry implications are also addressed.

Lule, J. (2012). Understanding Media and Culture. Retrieved from https://openlibrary-repo.ecampusontario.ca/jspui/handle/123456789/430.

He provides an in-depth analysis of how we use media in our everyday lives and how much we consume daily. He also goes on to explain how culture has shaped media and what it became today. This article will be extremely useful in my paper because it will distinguish between mass communication and mass media as well as define culture. It will explain the adaptation of media within our society and the roles it plays within our society.

Abstract from Author: This book's title tells its intent. It is written to help you understand media and culture. The media and culture are so much a part of our days that sometimes it is difficult to step back and appreciate and apprehend their great impact on our lives. The book's title, and the book itself, begin with a focus squarely on media. Think of your typical day. If you are like many people, you wake to a digital alarm clock or perhaps your cell phone. Soon after waking, you likely have a routine that involves some media. Some people immediately check the cell phone for text messages. Others will turn on the computer and check Facebook, email, or websites. Some people read the newspaper. Others listen to music on an iPod or CD. Some people will turn on the television and watch a weather channel, cable news, or Sports Center. Heading to work or class, you may chat on a cell phone or listen to music. Your classes likely employ various types of media from course management software to PowerPoint presentations to DVDs to YouTube. You may return home and relax with video games, television, movies, more Facebook, or music. You connect with friends on campus and beyond with text messages or Facebook. And your day may end as you fall asleep to digital music. Media for most of us are entwined with almost every aspect of life and work. Understanding media will not only help you appreciate the role of media in your life but also help you be a more informed citizen, a more savvy consumer, and a more successful worker. Media influence all those aspects of life as well.

Gary J Krug. (2005). Communication, Technology and Cultural Change. SAGE Publications Ltd.

Annotation: In this article, it speaks about our connection to media and technology and how it adds an increased flow to our society and culture. It examines the shift that technology has in our workplace and businesses and the future. This article will be extremely useful in my paper because it talks about how we participate in technology from our business, everyday lives, to teaching and learning. It will examine the creativity in the world of social media.

Abstract from Author: With a foreword by Norman Denzin Communication and the history of technology have invariably been examined in terms of artefacts and people. Gary Krug argues that communication technology must be studied as an integral part of culture and lived experience. Rather than stand in awe of the apparent explosion of new technologies, this book links key moments and developments in communication technology with the social conditions of their time. It traces the evolution of technologyculture, and the self as mutually dependent and influential. This innovative approach will be welcomed by undergraduates and postgraduates needing to develop their understanding of the cultural effects of communication technology, and the history of key communication systems and techniques.
